How can we stop crime in an effective manner?

My ideas for preventing crime in the United States are as follows

Personally, I think that if poverty is put to an end, crime will follow as well. We need a number of things to be done. People are always going to do drugs. There's no way to stop that. We might as well legalize all of them, and put regulations on them. We also need to get rid of the chance of parole for people who commit violent crimes. Society doesn't need more violent people back out in the streets. I'd say those are two of the biggest concerns as far as crime goes. Another thing, white collar criminals need far more harsher punishments. Enough of this "three years in jail then out" business. These people steal millions of dollars and they get out of jail in a measly three years? We need to be harded on these people. Just because they're rich and middle-aged and white doesn't mean that they don't deserve a punishment. I think these solutions will all work well, but I think it would consume a lot of time to get these things done and agreed upon, especially making all drugs legal and harsher punishment for white collar criminals. A lot of people in government probably wouldn't like the thought of having all drugs legalized and their rich friends in business getting some long jail time for their wrongdoings. Convincing the people in government to allow these things to pass is sure to be quite a challenge. But I think that it is completely plausible.

  1. Interesting...i like your idea on legalizing drugs. When you think about it, the government could do alot of things with that. They could legalize it, put extremely high taxes on it...then either 2 things would happen:

    A. The government would make alot of tax money.
    B. People would stop doing the drug because they cannot afford it.

  2. Precisely. Which is why it's such a brilliant idea.

  3. I agree people need to start paying for their mistakes and acts of criminal behavior! I'm sick of watching the news and hearing that someone after five years is getting out and that someone who shot and killed a kid is not even being sentenced! Law enforcement needs to be more strict and aggressive. I think life in jail for murder or sexual abuse, or abuse is all worthy or life in prison.

  4. Tim you're right. People get off for crimes way to easy. Like when someone shoots a cop and they die its life in prison, but when someone shoots another person and they die its 15-life. Its a strange double standard.

  5. i agree with you... the white collar criminals punishment is way to short. when they do their crimes sometimes they hurt way more than one person which deserves a bigger punishment than people who only hurt one person.

  6. I completely agree. People who commit white collar crimes need to be punished more harshly.

  7. drugs arent legal because the government brings them into the country, sells them, arrests the people who the drugs were sold to, and sell them again. Its a cyclic process that gives the government millions, if not billions, of dollars. That is why it remains illegal; marijuana is the most profitable cash crop in California, generating up to six billion dollars a year. The best part of all this is that the American people are so blissfully unaware that all of this is happening that they actually support it with their tax dollars.

  8. i also agree with evan and alot of people because they harm more people generally than just one person in a blue collar crime
